September 11, 2001 started off as a regular day for Madiha and her family in Queens. Mere hours later, however, Madiha is desperate to reunite her family. As she searches for her daughters and husband, who are scattered across New York, Madiha recalls the day she first landed in America. After her husband Ranbir is attacked, Madiha desperately turns to the Muslim community she abandoned thirty years ago. As Islamophobia and South Asian hate skyrocket across the country, Madiha and her family must each choose if they will lean more into their cultural roots or if they will assimilate to American culture.

After Sunita unpleasantly surprises Puja with an arranged marriage proposal, she finally decides to move out of her parents’ house. But has she made the right decision? As Puja figures out where to live, learns to cook for one, and even looks for love, she must resist the pull that her mother has on her.
